From the get go this whole plan to have Comcast buy a significant share of NBC Universal and then manage it was and is a horrible idea because I really don’t take there word for it about keeping NBC and it’s Owned and Operated affiliates. I still have my reservations about that as it is a failing network and only 4 scripted shows are even viable to make it to next fall maybe even just 3 and well the biggest show they have is the Biggest Loser and that show is two hours of primetime on Tuesdays is a tent pole in the entire schedule. And the Jay Leno show is a terrible flop in the ratings during primetime, but if it was in Late Night still the show would be the biggest there is.
I see in 5 years NBC going dark, merging with another network or becoming a cable network. Why keep something that isn’t bringing in both Advertising revenue and cable carriage fee’s? Well I don’t think they will. One thing I hope they do is see that NBC can be turned around and fire everyone involved in the downward spiral after Friends and Will & Grace left the air. FOX has taken the top spot along with CBS for the November sweeps and there is only 3 Major networks as NBC has lowered itself to 4th or 5th place in ratings. Remember when NBC w
as king and no one knew when it would come down from the heavenly highs it had with hit’s like: Friends, Seinfeld, Will & Grace, Frasier, the first 5 seasons of E.R and Law & Order? with those show’s it was a powerhouse. Now it is a shadow of it’s former self. But the path to complete destruction ( I say corporate suicide ) is moving forward with the merger with in all intent’s and purposes it’s greatest foe. A Cable company as that Comcast’s only interests is to make as much money as possible and own as much of the entertainment sources as possible so no real options will be out there.
They have become a massive conglomerate that raises rates every year with the excuse that it is because of having to pay the due’s to content providers. But what will it’s excuse be when they own a huge portion of that content and will continue to jack up rates and make quality television less accessible to people who in this economy have to make the choice of cable or food, cable or electricity, cable or heat? cocktail recipes It is wrong that they have the power they do and the power they are building with this deal. So prepare yourself they will do what they can to make a buck on anything they can and anyplace it is seen. They are in the process along with another big corporate conglomerate to push the TV Anywhere initiative that ensures that if you want to see tv programming you will have to pay them. Doesn’t this seem a bit monopolistic. I am not saying they own everything but in there world they would if they could. And for lawmakers to allow this deal to go through is a big problem for the consumers of this nation and freedom of choice which is getting less and less with the allowance of such deals.
