Michael Jackson — Live in Concert? Not Exactly

Posted Jan 26th 2010 1:45AM by TMZ Staff

Michael Jackson is back … at least according to a Ticketmaster email.

The email above sure makes it seem like Michael is performing in San Diego on Valentine’s Day. But the show is actually a laser light show set to Michael’s music. It’s an hour and a half long and tickets are around $40. The show starts at 5:00 PM and there is a Pink Floyd one at 7:30 PM.

Plenty of good seats still available. Shocker.

RBTL people!

This is extremely interesting. First of all for the obvious reasons: Michael is back!

I truly believe they are testing the waters for when they actually announce he is back.

Secondly, they mention Pink Floyd. Well this takes me back to a post of mine from Nov 4th when I used another well known Alternate Reality Game as a reference. I was hoping that if I read about how one actually played out that it may help me to identify if we were now part of the biggest longest ARG. It was for Pink Floyd’s Publis Enigma.

http://lilwendy.wordpress.com/2009/11/04/other-arg-for-reference/

And here’s another earlier one from Oct

http://lilwendy.wordpress.com/2009/10/27/a-game-2/

Anyway, it has me thinking.. I’m just going to throw some thoughts out in point form.

Arguably the granddaddy of the genre. Although it was preceded by the “Publius Enigma,” a promotion for the Division Bell album by Pink Floyd, the Beast was more successful in attracting a mainstream and diverse audience. This alternate reality game was set in the A.I. movie universe and centered around the mysterious death of Evan Chan.

Don’t you think Evan Chan and Evan Chandler are pretty darn close? Hmm interesting.

Is this an ARG to promo This is It DVD, CD, movie, etc.

If so, people would hit the roof thinking this anguish was all for marketing. They would have to do something to avoid a massive uproar from people – like adding massive value into the people’s tits lives.

I believe mjawakening and thisisalsoit played key roles in us understanding about the world we live in and about what we need to do to make a change. This is a big big value add.

Everyone has a role to play: from Karen heading up This is Not it to someone heading up This is also it, to family members, friends, certain people on Twitter, etc.

Oh also I think it’s very interesting there is an instructional video out for “The Drill” and then there are a few fan events where we need to learn this and then do our stuff at the event.

Then on YouTube comes out from the Philippines a huge amount of inmates doing the drill (absolutely phenomenal by the way… see below)

What I can envision? Pods of people/fans from all over the planet… in every country… learning the drill, wearing the shirt and orange pants. (Except MJ will wear his gold pants – woo hoo!) and on one day at a particular hour we perform the largest ever simultaneous dance routine… all for L.O.V.E… putting MJ once again into the Guinness Book of World Records.

This is also an opportunity to clear MJ’s name. Oh everything comes out after someone is dead and gone. True colours shine through. So it is an important mandate of this game to get in there and dispel all the rumors so when MJ comes back, it will be to a positive opinion of him, and who he is as a person. They need to deposit into the media all the good Michael did and educate the public.

They will also need to keep a pulse on how that public opinion is changing. Enter TMZ. TMZ is a great way to get the low down, to comment (ie give feedback on public opinion) and to be a medium for giving clues for those looking for them. I could be looking way too far into this but everything on TMZ that is bolded seems to be a clue to me – from Paula’s “dancing with the stars” which parallels “The Drill” practices we see happening to Steven Tyler singing two songs “Dude looks like a lady” (is MJ disguised as a lady?) and “I don’t wanna miss a thing” (hinting that if we don’t wanna miss a thing look for a dude who looks like a lady.)

I believe we are going to be graced by MJ’s presence however we won’t know it because we’ve had so many fakes that we don’t know who is who and MJ can just walk on the scene and blend in with all those fakes. We probably have been talking to some guy or girl and we don’t even realize it’s him!

If I have any additional thoughts I’ll add it on here.. but for now I leave you with the dancing inmates!

C2 commenter “realwest” (scroll down to comment #16) has some choice words of explanation for people who think Medicare coverage is free. Go over there or click “read more” to see his remarks.

Summary for non-Americans and the unitiated: Medicare (which covers people over 65, as well as certain other people with eligible chronic diseases or disabilities) is basically structured as four parts.

Part A is catastrophic coverage (visits to doctors and hospitals for life-threatening emergencies). It is “free” if you have paid social security taxes for at least 10 years (defined as 40 quarters, which need not be consecutive). If you have worked between 30 and 39 quarters, you can buy Part A coverage for (as of 2009) a premium of $225/mo: if you have worked less, $423/mo.

Part B covers visits to doctors, hospitals, medical imaging,… only up to 80% of the fees on the Medicare reimbursement schedule. The remaining 20%, as well as any fees charged over and above the Medicare rates, are the patient’s to pay. Part B has a monthly insurance premium of (as of 2008) $96.90/mo.

Part C (a.k.a. Medicare Advantage): supplemental coverage plans that cover the remaining 20% plus (depending on the specific plan) additional fees and services. This is generally the preferred option for people who require a lot of medical attention. “Realwest”, for example, plays about $300/mo, adding up to about $400/mo in Medicare insurance premiums. Alternatively (mutually exclusive with part C), one may choose to enroll in a private Medigap (supplementary coverage insurance) plan.

Part D is the Prescription Drug Benefit. , including the infamous “donut hole“. That is, under Part D, the first $295/yr are on the patient, the Part D covers 75% of the part between $295 and $2,700/yr. Above that, you enter the “donut hole” where all expenses are out of pocket until the “catastrophic coverage threshold” is reached, at which point Part D picks up 95% of any additional expenses.

Note that the above only describes coverage. Coverage is worthless without access: already now, nearly one-third of physicians (usually specialists) will not accept Medicare patients, and this number of “girls gone wilddocs gone Galt” is expected to increase if further Medicare fee reductions take effect.

realwest   1.3.2010 6:00 PM     #16

Well, not to cut off any banter or good morning cheeriness (?!) but I do want to put out here something about Medicare which JCM was kind enough to provide some thoughts on in the Post itself.

I think the below information is sufficiently important that – although this is somewhat long, I hope you all will read it, carefully.

Many folks are of the mistaken idea that Medicare is FREE health care once you reach a certain age. Well, maybe not many people, but I sure was! LOL!

But that’s all that’s funny about Medicare. Y’all need to know that all you get from basic (called Part A) Medicare, which you don’t need to pay any more for, is emergency – life threatening emergency visits to doctors and hospitals. If you pay income taxes in the U.S., you’ve been paying some small amount to Medicare since you started working. It’s “hidden” in that Social Security/FICA crap.

BUT – if you want medical coverage, you MUST purchase Medicare Part “B” – which costs $96.90 a month. IF you spend that $1,200 a year on Medicare part B, that enables you to have Medicare pay for up to 80% of Medicare ALLOWED doctor and hospital charges; the other 20% and any charges above the amount that Medicare allows to doctors, hospitals, x-ray and lab stuff are out of your pocket. So if you are seriously ill, know you’ll be seeing a lot more doctors, prescription cards x-ray labs and hospitals than you’d like, you buy Part “C” – which [for Realwest's plan in his state --- Ed.] currently costs $297.65 a month – that’ll cover the additional 20% that Medicare ALLOWS doctors, hospitals, labs etc to charge to Medicare. So we are now up to about $400 a month for Medicare Insurance – even though you’ve already paid into it, as I said, your entire working life.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE CHARGES AND THE AVAILABILITY OF COVERAGE VARY STATE BY STATE. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY.

But if you also want prescription drug coverage, it will cost you another $67.50 a month and you will pay 20-30% Co-Pay of what Medicare ALLOWS pharmacies to charge you. Until Medicare has paid up to $2,050 in drug coverage for you. Thereafter you fall into what is described as the “gap” or the donut – the next $4,700 a year in prescription medications you must pay out of your own pocket. So we are now up to $800 a month (amortizing the $4,700 on a monthly basis) PLUS THE CO-PAYS before you got into the “Gap” or in my case,for example, about $925 a month. That is to say, Medicare coverage for doctor visits, labs, x-rays, and prescription coverage is costing about $11,000 a year. Of course, once you get out of the “gap” you are on what Medicare so quaintly calls
“catastrophic” coverage and suddenly the drug I take every month that costs me $525 retail (when I’m in the Gap) now costs me only about $28.00 a month. My own drug costs is such that I get in the Gap by April 30th and get out of it by October 1st of each year. So that’s another oh $360 or so per annum for my Catastrophic coverage.

Y’all still with me here? You ought to be, because if you don’t wind up needing Medicare, it’s almost a sure thing your parents or siblings will. So Medicare costs me roughly $11,500 a year or about $960 a month. For the most basic coverages available. My mother and I each had to stop taking prescribed medications by our oncologist – one medication each – to be able to afford living while in the Gap. And no, we each make a tad more than that which is allowed by State Medicaid for additional health care assistance.

And the LEFT Congressional Party is proposing a further 21.5% cut in the reimbursement to doctors (google Mayo Clinic, Phoenix) with the result that while there are NOW 27% of doctors who WILL NOT ACCEPT MEDICARE PATIENTS (mostly specialists like surgeons, oncologists, urologists, cardiologists, etc), that percentage may grow to something like 35%-40% of doctors who will not accept Medicare PatientsAT ALL.

And yet, in addition to increasing income taxes and fees etc. the Obama administration is proposing to further cut aid to Medicare recipients by another $500 BILLION to help fund free Health care for those – well, actually a little less than half of those who don’t have medical insurance, NOW. Of course those benefits to those who are uninsured won’t start until 2013 although the cuts to Medicare recipients and the increased taxes started THIS YEAR.

While I recognize that this health care reform is about POWER not about providing decent health care, I can’t help but wonder at a United States Government that would handle MEDICARE as poorly as it does, EVER running National Healthcare, or as the Left Party likes to call it “the Public Option”.

Poetry should belong to poets, not institutions.

Trying to enrich poetry with endowments and gifts poems is pointless.

Poetry is not like a highway or a school; it doesn’t require funding like that.

Popular appeal is, we feel, an important resource, one which poets once used, but which has dried up due to institutional machinations.

Poetry in China was a required skill for government employees for years. But this was not some charity move to enhance poetry; poetry was seen as a legitimate part of a well-rounded person.

Poetry has historically been a subject in school, but not because efforts were being made to give poetry special protection; poetry, as it existed, was a worthy example for those studying language and history.

Now the cart is before the horse. Poetry does not drive human excellence as an independent force; it is a mere charity case.

Treated as a charity case, this is what it has, in fact, become.

It is precisely the idea that poetry needs special institutional support which prevents poetry from retaining its former glory, since the resource of popular appeal is barred from the poet unable to compete with institutional might.

We cannot get our minds around the fact that billions of dollars of institutional support for poetry has actually hurt poetry.

If you took all that money away, and allowed the poet who appeals to the people to triumph—just allow that process to play out—there’s no telling how much more important poetry would be to us as a culture. Were the muse permitted to be on its own and survive through poetry’s appeal to the public alone, there is no telling how this might enrich us as a people.

Let there be a genuinely popular poet, rather than ten thousand endowed poets, and let us see what follows. We don’t know what that poetry would look like in this scenario, because it hasn’t been allowed to exist. We’re not talking about a Robert Frost either, who was in some ways an institutional product, and somewhat popular as well. We’re talking about a Robert Frost x 100.

We’re talking about a poetry left to flourish without any institutional support, one which, to survive, must intoxicate the masses!

so you can food network imagine my mild sense of irritation when my computer closed the windows screen due to some error. the irritation soon crossed over into panic, when my laptop kept shutting itself down and then refused to start up. so yeah, my computer has officially crashed.

friends have told me that repairing it is out of the question (it is five years old after all), so i should just go ahead and buy a new one. sure thing. but until i buy a new one (or steal the macbook off my brother) my posts here will be a bit irregular. to all those of you who visit my site, please bear with the delay - it is only a matter of time. so sometime in the near future, i will be back online, posting away merrily (and for all you know, all the pent-up lack of posting might make me a super-poster!!).

before i sign off, wishing you all a wonderful new year ahead, with days filled with happiness, laughter and a whole lof of yummy food!

This article might not be very efficient for the fanlisting owner of one or two listings, but for people who have large collectives of fanlistings (probably in the 10+ range), this is an article for you. Also, if you’re an efficiency freak like me, or lazy (also like me), this is for you, too.

One thing that I would consider the downfall of maintaining your fanlistings with a script such as BellaBuffs is how you can’t use the same base script for each one without all your fanlistings sounding like drones. “Welcome to (title), the fanlisting for (subject)!” Unless you change the text in each individual file (your members pages, your rules, your codes, etc), the pages for all your fanlistings will sound and look the exact same.

But they’re fanlistings! They’re unique and special not only to you, but to their fans. They SHOULD have unique text, to show off their own lingo and style. But if you have to change the text in each file for every page, you might as well maintain your listings by hand. What’s adding a few <li>’s when you’re already editing all your text? So why do we even HAVE these scripts? To make life easier. But they’re not making life as easy as possible, are they?

Well, that’s where this article comes in. Welcome to the article for a one-script-fits-all BellaBuffs.

The theory behind the idea is that you should be able to have a one “static” version of BellaBuffs on your computer that you can upload into any fanlisting directory you have, the subject being anything from M.A.C. makeup to World of Warcraft. This way, you’re not bloating up your computer with unnecessary index, about, button, etc. files. The only unique file you will have to store for each listing is prefs.php, the file that keeps each listing’s exclusive text.

Your job is to make a template for each page. For example, here is a basic template for an index page (this is based on the assumption you’re using headers):

<h1>welcome to (title)</h1>
<p>
(welcome text)
</p>
<h1>(title)’s stats</h1>
<p>
members: (memberscount)
pending: (memberspending)
</p>

Let’s say your fanlisting is for mint chocolate chip ice cream (a subject close to my heart). The title of your fanlisting is Minty-Fresh. You want your welcome text to say:

Welcome to Minty-Fresh, the fanlisting for that uber-delicious, creamy, frosty treat, Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream!

Now, it’s not like you can just leave that welcome text in your index template… if you have a fanlisting for Transformers, it’s not like you can call your fanlisting “Minty-Fresh,” when a more proper title would be something like “Metamorphosis.” And nor can you describe Transformers as a creamy, frosty treat. Well, BellaBuffs has solved the first problem for you; in the file prefs.php, you can edit the title of your fanlisting in the line

$title = “title”;   // name of fanlisting

You simply replace title with Minty-Fresh. When you enter the text for your introductory header, the code looks like this:

<h1>Welcome to <?php echo $title; ?></h1>

The php code mentioned above calls your fanlisting title from the prefs.php file, so when the browser loads the page, the viewer will see “Welcome to Minty-Fresh!” as the text that greets them. That way, for any fanlisting, you can have a static welcome header, whether it says “Welcome to Minty-Fresh!” or “Welcome to Metamorphosis!”

However, the latter problem of the introductory text is NOT magically solved in the current BellaBuffs script. The great thing is, with a little PHP magic just like the fanlisting title, you can have your exclusive introductory text called from our preferences — making it so the only thing you have to edit is your prefs.php, and never index.php after creating your template!

In prefs.php, you will need to add a line. The first part of this file should look like this:

<?php
// FANLIST SETTINGS
$title = “title”;   // name of fanlisting
$FLsubject = “subject”;    // subject of fanlisting (e.g “coffee”)
$FLurl = “http://www.yoursite.com/directory”;   // url of fanlisting – no trailing slash (don’t add a ‘/’ at the end)!

Under the line containing the variable $FLurl, you will need to add a new variable, $introtext, and you will have to define the introductory text. So, continuing with the mint chocolate chip ice cream example (which may not be a good idea for my thighs, if I keep craving it like this…), the beginning of your prefs.php file will look like this:

<?php
// FANLIST SETTINGS
$title = “Minty-Fresh”;   // name of fanlisting
$FLsubject = “Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream”; // subject of fanlisting (e.g “coffee”)
$FLurl = “http://www.yoursite.com/minty”;   // url of fanlisting – no trailing slash (don’t add a ‘/’ at the end)!
$introtext = “Welcome to <strong>Minty-Fresh</strong>, the fanlisting for that uber-delicious, creamy, frosty treat, <em>Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream!</em>”;

Now that your introduction is in prefs.php, you need to make it viewable in your new index.php template. It should now look something like this:

<h1>welcome to <?php echo $title; ?></h1>
<p>
<?php echo $introtext; ?>
</p>
<h1><?php echo $title; ?>’s stats</h1>
<p>
members: (memberscount)
pending: (memberspending)
</p>

And now, your readers will see:

Welcome to Minty-Fresh

Welcome to Minty-Fresh, the fanlisting for that uber-delicious, creamy, frosty treat, Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream!

Minty-Fresh’s Stats

Members: 0
Pending: 0

The thing is, all the unique text was pulled from one file — prefs.php. You could edit your title and introtext variables of your various pref.php files so they match all your fanlistings and all you have to do is upload the same exact version of BellaBuffs you have for each one. Your index.php file will follow the same template for each listing. The variables are where the “meat” of your site is.

So, here’s a wrap up:

You’re going to need ONE copy flowers of BellaBuffs.

You will have to create templates for each page you plan to have unique text in.

You will need to upload your copy of BellaBuffs with all the new templates to each fanlisting directory you have. The point of this tutorial is to have one copy of BellaBuffs on your machine that you can upload to your different directories, NOT one copy of BellaBuffs on your server.

Customize your prefs.php files to fit each, individual fanlisting. You will need a separate prefs.php file for each fanlisting you own, in each directory.

Open your fanlistings!

That’s the end of this tutorial, but it’s not the end of the possibilities! You want a unique about page? Create a variable in prefs.php called about and enter the text. Call it from prefs.php using the same echo code we used for the intro text. You want to list the date your fanlisting was approved? Add the variable dateapproved, define the date the same way we defined the title, and call it using the same echo code.

Really, you can do anything with this… be creative! Be elaborate! And all you need is one file.

Enjoy creating your many fanlistings with ease

2007

The sub-prime mortgage crisis that brought down our economy started some time in 2007. The current recession in U.S. officially began in December of 2007. Right-wingers around the country like to blame it on the Democrats taking power of congress early that year and some even blame it retroactively on Barack Obama. Right-wingers believe in the supernatural, so apparently they believe Democrats have the power to cause events to occur in the past.

Foot and mouth disease was found on a farm at in UK. All livestock was banned the following day. Foot IN mouth disease continued to affect George W. Bush’s speech patterns.

2007 marked an extreme escalation in violence in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Multiple suicide bombings in Northern Iraq kill 572. Suicide bomber kills more than 50 in Afghanistan including 6 member of the National Assembly.

An earthquake in Peru killed 512 and injured more than 1500.

2008

This decade was just one disaster after another. In January, the price of oil hit $100 a barrel for first time. The Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 led to oil to be traded by speculators who drove up the price of oil for profit. The high price of fuel caused inflation and hurt consumption. People were spending all their extra money on gas with little left over for luxury items or even essential items. This helped drag our country into the recession.

Worldwide stock markets crashed, resulting in billions of dollars in losses. Rising food and fuel prices triggered riots in 3rd world countries. Lehman Bros filed for Chap 11 bankruptcy in September. 700 billion dollars was given to Henry Paulson in the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act to purchase failing bank assets. Paulson changed his mind a few weeks after receiving the money and instead handed over hundreds of billions to his buddies in the banking industry. Tens of billions are unaccounted for since there was little accounting and no oversight as to how the money was spent.

Also in 2008, Fidel Castro resigned as President of Cuba and his brother Raul was elected to take his place. In June, Bill Gates steps down from Microsoft to concentrate on philanthropy. Perhaps that was to redeem himself for all the years of unethical and illegal business practices. Or maybe he just doesn’t need so many billions of dollars.

Over 130 thousand people were killed by Cyclone Nargis in Burma/Myanmar. Almost 70 thousand were killed in China by an earthquake. Shoddy building construction led to homes and schools collapsing on the occupants.

A suicide bomber hit the Indian embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, killing 58 and injuring over 150. More than 60 people were killed in other suicide bombings in Afghanistan.

Buddhist monks protested China’s occupation of Tibet and many were murdered or imprisoned by Chinese officials. China has been one of the world’s worst violators of human rights, yet they were awarded the 2008 Summer Olympics. Athletes were concerned about the severe pollution in Beijing, but it didn’t seem to be a problem.

Late in the year, a global financial crisis erupted and banks failed worldwide and in November,
Obama was elected first black president.

2009

Which brings us to this year. Obama took office on January 15 and was immediately blamed for the recession. Although Bush’s last fiscal year ended in October of this year and his deficit was triple his previous record from 2008, Obama was blamed for putting our country deep in debt from all his “spending.”

The swine flu from Mexico was deemed global pandemic. Many people around the country have become sick or even died from the flu. Right-winger Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected in fraud-ridden election in Iran. Protests followed and right-wingers complained that Obama hasn’t done anything. Many cite Reagan’s “tear down this wall speech.”

Natural disasters continued with Typhoon Morakot hitting Taiwan and killing 500.

We have three days left of this disaster of a decade. Let’s hope for those to be uneventful. We nearly had another deadly terrorist attack on Christmas day. The only thing that saved the driving directions people on the airliner was the stupidity of the terrorist.
